Shanghai City Memory

A city remembered, one fragment at a time.

Step from a city map into rooms and courtyards from the past. Touch objects, gather fragments, and look at a city anew in an interactive demo about records and memory.

A desktop browser is recommended; memory reconstruction uses demonstration data.

About the project

When a city survives in words, photographs, and scattered objects, how can we get closer to it? This project places those fragments in spaces you can enter, turning a visit to history into an experience of moving, pausing, and touching.

What you can do

  1. Enter memory spaces and courtyards related to Flowers of Shanghai from a city map.
  2. Study old photographs and touch objects in the rooms to find fragments of memory.
  3. Experience how records can be rearranged through shifts in light and space.

Where it stands

An online demo is available. Memory reconstruction uses preset demonstration data rather than live model generation; the imagined scenes are not presented as historical reconstructions. The experience is better suited to a desktop browser.
